What's the WhatsApp Calling API?
Meta added voice calls to the WhatsApp Business Platform in late 2025. Businesses can now receive and route calls from WhatsApp users to contact centers, IVRs, or voice bots. The 200-calls-per-day path lets you qualify for Tech Partner if your clients use voice heavily, even with lower messaging volume.

Initiate the upgrade

Add the WhatsApp Specialty

Sign up for the Partner Portal

The Partner Portal is your new central hub. It is where Meta shares sales materials, where you collaborate on deals with the Business Messaging team, and where you sign the final Accelerate Program agreement.

  5. Enter your name and business ID
  6. Accept the agreement

Enroll in the Business Messaging Accelerate Program

This is the final agreement. The Business Messaging Accelerate Program is Meta's formal Tech Partner framework. Signing it activates your Tech Partner status officially.

You're officially in. When you return to the Onboarding page and all 5 steps show as complete, you are officially a Meta Tech Partner. The Partner Directory listing will appear within 7 to 14 days.

What counts as an "active business customer"?
Meta counts a business customer as active if at least one message has been sent through your platform on their behalf in the last 30 days. Test accounts and your own internal accounts do not count.
How does Meta calculate quality rating?
Quality rating is a per-phone-number score Meta computes from user feedback (block rate, report rate) and template performance over a rolling 7-day window. Green is high, yellow is medium, red is low. Tech Partner eligibility expects 90% or more of your active numbers to sit in Green.
Can I really qualify via calling instead of messaging?
Yes. Meta updated the criteria in 2026 to add an alternative path through the WhatsApp Calling API. If your platform handles 200 or more calls per day on average, you can qualify on the calling path even if your messaging volume is below 2,500 per day.
What is the WhatsApp Calling API and how do I access it?
The WhatsApp Calling API lets businesses receive and route WhatsApp voice calls to contact centers, IVRs, or voice bots. Meta added it to the Business Platform in late 2025 and it is rolling out to selected partners through 2026. Access is currently invite-only — Tech Partner status accelerates your invitation.
What happens if my quality rating drops below 90% after I become a Tech Partner?
Meta will not revoke your Tech Partner status immediately. You will receive warnings, and persistent low quality across many of your client numbers can lead to messaging limit reductions, partner directory de-listing, and ultimately downgrade. The fix is almost always tighter opt-in flows and better template hygiene.
Can my clients work with multiple Solution Partners?
Yes. A business customer can have multiple BSP or Solution Partner relationships on the same WhatsApp Business Account. As a Tech Partner you can be one of them — your client is not locked into you exclusively.
What is the difference between Tech Partner and Solution Partner?
Tech Partner means you build the platform — APIs, integrations, ISV-grade tooling. Solution Partner means you sell, implement, and support the platform for end businesses. Many partners hold both designations. Tech Partner is the path covered by this tool.
Does becoming a Tech Partner give me access to the WhatsApp Calling API automatically?
No, but it puts you near the front of the queue. The Calling API is invite-only in 2026, and Meta prioritizes Tech Partners with established voice use-cases when granting access.
How long does the full upgrade process take end to end?
Active work is about 1 to 2 hours of form-filling across the 5 steps. Meta reviews take 2 to 4 weeks for the partner application and 1 to 2 weeks for the WhatsApp Specialty. Most partners complete the entire flow in 4 to 6 weeks.
What is the Business Messaging Accelerate Program?
It is Meta's formal Tech Partner framework. Enrolling signs you into the partner agreement and unlocks co-selling, joint marketing, a dedicated Meta account team, and the Business Messaging Accelerate card inside the Partner Portal.
Can I lose Tech Partner status? How?
Yes. The main causes are: persistent low quality ratings across client numbers, abandonment of active business customers, repeated policy violations, or letting your Business Verification lapse. Meta typically warns you and gives you 30 days to remediate before downgrading.
Do I still need a BSP after I become a Tech Partner?
No. As a Tech Partner you operate directly on the WhatsApp Business Platform under your own brand, with your own Embedded Signup. The BSP role is fully replaced — you are now the BSP for your clients.
